Minutes of Quarterly Meeting
July 14, 2009

The meeting was called to order by President Linda Harden.   Board members present included Harry Hurt, Chuck Willcox, Robert Powell, Harry Hurt, Hodges Whitaker, Charles Gillespie, Bob Davis and Jody Slocum.  Minutes from the previous meeting and the current Treasurer’s report were approved.

REPORTS

Robert Powell gave an update on the financial situation with the Retreat, as managed by Coral under contract with the North Georgia Mountain Authority.  They lost money last year.  Their new budget was approved by the NGMA for the coming year.  Robert encouraged us to do a better job of supporting and promoting the retreat. 

Buddy Harden provided an overview of the state and park financial situation.  He pointed out that we receive no federal funding for any of our park operations.  Given the cutbacks occurring in all state agencies, we are fortunate that our park has not had a reduction in services or opening/closing times as have others in the state.  The Red Top Mountain park manager has taken over from our previous manager.

NEW BUSINESS

It was suggested that the board look into forming a group to help re-energize support for the park and facilities.  Other communities have very active groups that promote various initiatives.  This will be taken under consideration by the board.

Member concerns mentioned included hunting/shooting on the lake.  The issue of using senior volunteers to help run/manage the park was also discussed.

The next meeting will be held on October 13th (Meal will be served).
